Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy and Versatile I'm very happy with this very versatile tripod,it takes the place of all my previous tripods. The ball head is very sturdy and quick.I also have the window mount, that is interchangeable, making swap outs a snap.I have two spotters with one type shoe. This is my third Vortex product ,all of highest quality and function.Vortex has really got it nailed .5 Stars!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great light weight tripod Been using this tripod for a few years and it worked great with my binoculars and 15-45x50 scope. This year I upgraded my spotting scope to a vanguard 20-60x80. This scope is on the heavy side for this tripod as it shakes a bit even while dialed up to only 40. I'd recommend using lighter then a 4 lb spotting scope on this tripod

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What else can I say it is a VORTEX product!!!! I never put a lot of thought into what I connected my spotting scope to until I had a cheap one fail me. I was at my local sporting store and was playing with this and ended up taking it home. They have just enough weight to eliminate your optics from moving in the wind but not enough that you notice it when hiking/hunting.

The product manual calls this a "Summit Carbon Tripod", yet the description says it has aluminum legs. Which is it? If it's aluminum, does Vortex offer a Carbon Fiber tripod?

Asked by: Antler Assassin
The Summit SS and Summit SS-P are both aluminum tripods, our Summit Carbon Tripod was a different tripod that we no longer make. All of our current tripods are aluminum.

I have purchased the tripod and a Manfrotto 322rc pistol grip ball head to replace the head that was integral to the center column. Since the head can't be removed, it appears I will have to order a Manfrotto center column that will fit the tripod. What is the outside diameter of the factory center column? I don't see this information listed. Is this my only option?
Asked by: Shane
The diameter is 17.95 mm or .707 inches. I believe that head is attached using permanent thread lock, which can be defeated with the application of heat. It is not an easy process to get off, but we have one in the showroom that we have taken apart.

Can the ball head be removed from the tripod and another head used if desired?
Asked by: utah450
A permanent thread locker is used on that particular head, so it is not recommended to remove it. However, if you can remove it successfully there is an industry standard 1/4-20 thread where you could put on a different head.

Hello,  I have bought the Vortex BINOCULAR TRIPOD ADAPTER. Do I need anything else to connect my Vortex Viper HD to this tripod? Thanks!
Asked by: Ella
As long as you have the proper plate that fits into the tripod and connects to your binocular tripod adapter, then you should be good to go! This is the plate I'm referring to that you will need. http://www.vortexoptics.com/product/summit-ss-tripod-quick-release-plate --- Hope this helps!
