Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unsurprised by another awesome vortex product. Tough to see in this photo, by design... A summit XLT tripod is holding steady a Mk13 Mod7 (20+ lbs of rifle, optic, and suppressor). Never missed a beat through this 3 month long course that covers NC swamps to ridgelines in UT. Its compact size being critical where it can fit into an outside pouch of a drag bag or be stowed inside a ruck, rather than being attached to the exterior, causing snags. All the other guys in the course with their brand X tripod swore they would be picking one of these up after using and seeing mine. Summit Carbon will be next.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tripod I bought this for my razor HD spotting scope. It's a great tripod. Holds up the scope and I don't have to worry it's going to fall off. Once you set it, it holds nice so you don't lose the animal your looking at. Pretty light weight for the size.

Will this tripod work with Manfrotto horizontal grip ball heads?

Asked by: Trav
Yes, you can use a Manfrotto head on the Summit XLT.

With this type of mount, the ball head, how do you actually move say a spotting scope or other device attached to hit without a handle? Also, can a handle be added?
Asked by: Scroder
It does have a small T handle to tighten the socket onto the ball. This places tension on it so it will not move. You can tension it to a certain point that it will hold firm, but you can use your hand to manually manipulate the position of the spotting scope. Should you desire a pan head instead of a ball head you could always purchase an aftermarket one and put it on.

Does the quick release plate on the summit xlt tripod fit with the summit window mount?
Asked by: Shotstring
No it does not. The window mount has a smaller release plate.

Is this tripod sturdy enough to handle a Razor HD 20-60x85 spotting scope? Or should I look at the skyline? I will be using this more for long range spotting duties during competitions, range, etc... It sounds like a good compromise...
Asked by: kermit4161
Absolutely - this is a great choice for you when using the big 85mm Razor Spotter.
