Diamondback® 4-12x40 Riflescope

The Diamondback® —loaded with features! First, the solid one-piece aircraft-grade aluminum alloy construction makes the Diamondback® riflescope virtually indestructible and highly resistant to magnum recoil. Argon purging puts waterproof and fogproof performance on the agenda, and advanced fully multi-coated optics raise an eyebrow when crystal clear, tack-sharp images appear in the crosshairs. Look for all this and more in a riflescope you'd expect to cost quite a bit more-but doesn't. We can live with that.

  • 4-12x40 riflescope is ideal for big game, predator/varmint, muzzleloader, slug shotgun, and long range applications.
  • Dead-Hold BDC reticle has a customized design that helps eliminate guesswork on hold-over and windage corrections. Good for any hunting or shooting at varying ranges where estimating hold-over would be a concern.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good scope. Great warranty! I bought the Diamondback 4-12X40 a few months ago. The clarity is good and the BDC cross hairs are sharp. While the Diamondback might be on the lower end of Vortex's product lines, it is still better than many scopes that cost more. The reason that I so often choose Vortex is their outstanding warranty. I have had to send a broken scope back to Vortex before (my mistake, not theirs) and I have never had a more positive and helpful customer service experience before. They stand behind their superior products. Keep up the good work Vortex!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great scope, great price, and yes I own a couple The scope holds up beautifully to heavy recoil. It's clear with easy target acquisition. I recommend that you use the Vortex site to input your load information for your BDC, it'll give you a good idea of the ranges for your BDC. The Vortex warranty is the best on the market. I had smoke damage to a couple scopes, called them up, sent the scopes in, and not only did they replace the scopes but the package came with a couple t-shirts and hand written note. The folks at Vortex went above and beyond with their customer service. They make excellent products and their customer service is the best in the business.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much better than expected The value of the Diamondback scopes cannot be beat. I purchased this scope for a .308 savage bolt action rifle. After a Simmons scope I was blown away by everything, visual clarity and quality are excellent and eye relief was perfect (the Simmons smacked me occasionally, a 6.5lb 308 jumps). After several sessions at the range it has held zero, even after an accidental drop in my garage. If I was a better shooter I'm sure I could say more, but compared to almost anything under 0 msrp it's hard not to see the value in this scope. I let a friend try it, he swears by Zeiss and only Zeiss. Since then he has bought 3 vortex optics.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great scope that that won't kill the bank account. I needed a scope after the factory mounted one that came with my rifle broke after the first trip to the range. Vortex was not a brand I was even aware of, I saw it the display case next to the Nikons (which what I had intended to purchase before walking in). The salesman showed me the diamondback it had a clear crisp view and was easy to focus, it held a good clear view even through all magnifications. The selling point for was the VIP warranty. It sounded so good when I needed another scope for a new rifle I didn't look at any other brands, and when I finally buy that .300 win mag I want I will have another Vortex sitting on top.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent scope for excellent shots My father purchased this scope for a Colt LE901 chambered in .308. We had iron sights before, and were able to shoot proficiently enough, but nothing extravagant. However, putting this scope on changed the name of the game for us. I sighted it in with 2 shots at 25 yards, 2 at 50 yards, and 2 at 100 yards. I had never had this easy of a time sighting in a rifle. This was assuredly the most user friendly, easy to use scope that I've ever handled. Everyone who has shot the rifle since has complimented the choice of scope, and how clear the view is, and there is no lack of eye relief. I wish I had the resources to outfit each rifle I had with one of these. I have no complaints.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great scope! I purchased this scope for use at the range during load evaluation/development. I wanted something with higher magnification than I typically use when hunting. I have several other Vortex scopes, but this was my first Diamondback. I was very impressed with the clarity of this 4-12x40 at full magnification. I recently had it mounted on a 6.8 SPC II AR and allowed a few people at my range to try the rifle. All of them made positive comments In the clarity of my glass, and were incredulous when I told them the general retail price for the scope. They assumed I had mounted a much more expensive optic.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Price Point Scope To go with my recent .308 purchace, T/C Venture, I wanted a decent quality scope. This was a step up from the Simmons and Bushnells on my other rifles. A small step up in price but a huge step up in quality. When I first mounted and bore sighted, the glass was very clear and the scope has a stable solid feel and the adjustments just work and feel like they click into place. Where this shines, literally, is when I switch between rifles at the range and note how much brighter and crisper the image is with the Diamondback compared to my other scopes. For range practice and eastern whitetail hunts this is all the scope I need and am tempted to replace my other scopes with Diamondbacks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow I'm rather new to the shooting/hunting game and was told about Vortex by a friend. I had another remington rifle with a entry level scope and went threw 38 rounds trying to "0" at 100 (my buddy even had me shot his gun to make sure it wasn't the shooter). I get a new model seven from Santa this year and pick up the Diamondback HP 4-12x40. Had it "0" in 5 shots at 100 and hit a 12" gong at 200 4 straight times. The glass is the clearest and is easily adjustable. I plan on picking up a semi auto here soon and will put a Viper on that. Thanks Vortex, looking forward to the '17 hunting season!!!!

Hi I want to put this on my sako a7 7mm rem mag. But I'm concerned about the amount of eye relief. Any thoughts?

Asked by: Abberjosh
For most shooters I think that will work ok, though it's a very subjective question. 7mm is not a super heavy recoiling round but depending how you hold the rifle it could be too close for comfort.

There is not a "best" yardage to zero at, it is personal preference depending on the kind of shooting you will be doing.
