Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clear and easy On a deer hunt in the AZ desert my daughter found a massive couse deer buck at 700 yards with that was bedded under some brush all she could see was his legs and with the vortex being as clear as they are she instantly knew it was a deer after watching for a few more minutes the deer turned his head and her jaw dropped she whispered that she found a mondo size deer. He was about 110 to 115 inches. We will be chasing him this up coming summer she has high hopes in putting her first tag on mondo thanks vortex for the quality opics at a super affordable price that has my 13 year old daughter waiting for her deer tag. Rated 5 out of 5 by from I LOVE ALL VORTEX PRODUCTS First I'll tell the story about how I got it, I ordered online from a individual and it was broken and severely effecting performance. I sent it myself to Vortex but later received an email saying sorry you had to pay for shipping and they sent me a bunch of great gear for compensation. I got it back within two weeks and it was flawless. I took it on my late season see hunt and I was able to look miles and find the buck I wanted. From a mile away I was able to tell I wanted to harvest him. Without the help of my Vortex spotting scope there is no way I could have been successful on my hunt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best bang for your buck or bull... I have two sets of spotting scopes from vortex and two sets of binoculars from vortex and a handful of tripods. Three things I have to have in optics and vortex provides all of them. Clarity, durability and customer service. The viper series are so clear I have not found another company provide lenses like these for the price they come in. I use my optics on all my hunts so that means they take their fair share of abuse. Then there is the customer service. I have had them send replacements without even asking me to send the old product back in. I couldn't be more satisfied with Vortex.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great spotting scope. I purchased this spotting scope for high country mule deer hunting and it is a very nice piece of optics. I was a little bummed that the clarity is not much better than my diamondback spotting scope I had before. Don't get me wrong Vortex is an awesome product and I will continue to purchase their products it's just for the money I thought there would have been a big difference in clarity.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable build, clear image, great customer service I purchased the Viper HD 20-60x80 (angled) about 10 months back and have really enjoyed this spotting scope. It gets a good amount of use hiking, camping, for wildlife observation, and at an outdoor rifle range to 300 yds. I ordered the additional wide angle eyepiece and get a lot of use out of both eyepieces. For range use, the scope is sharp enough for .223 rounds on paper targets at 200yds and high-contrast or splatter targets at 300yds. .308 can be seen on all targets out to 300yds. The dual coarse / fine adjustment works really well, and allows the user to sharpen the image at a specific focus point. For hiking/camping/wildlife use, I appreciate the build quality, clarity of the image, and assurance of the VIP warranty. The image is good in low light, and color, contrast and detail come through well. Image quality maintains throughout the magnification. My kids love it on trips looking out over the beach for distant boats and jumping fish, and it works well for looking at detail on the moon and stargazing. I had an opportunity to take Vortex up on the VIP warranty when the scope was damaged while I was rotating it in the collar. The folks at Vortex were nothing but gracious and completed the repair quickly with no issues whatsoever. That is a significant value added to a product that is already worth its price point on its own merits. I'll remain a customer because I believe Vortex offers a well made, quality product, backed up by a warranty you can't ask more of.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from wouldn't have gotten my 340 bull without it if i hadn't of had this spotting scope i would have never spotted my 340 bull. I had my brother with me and he had a small 15-45 power spotting scope. he had glassed a certain area and i did the same in a different one. we both didn't see anything. just getting ready to pack and go to a different area when i decided to glass in his spot and wouldn't you know it i spotted that bull and was able to tell that it was a shooter! this spotting scope is amazing quality clear glass and collects plenty of sunlight! my brother bought one after this hunt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a game changer! I used this spotting scope on a 7 day Moose hunt in interior Alaska. The clarity and low light use was absolutely stunning. I would hike up a mountain daily to spot for moose and the only item i took was the spotting scope. I spotted a moose from 2 miles away with this and was able to tell it had 4 brow tines which made it legal which directly led to that moose being taken. This scope let me know that moose was legal. Beyond thrilled with the product! I would consider this THE best investment for my hunting style.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My First Spotting Scope...and pleased! I have had this for about a year. Works very well and has very good clarity. Compared to other scopes I have used this one is really nice. I wish it came with an enclosed case to store/transport it in. it only comes with a soft case that was a lot of work to get on but it offers some protection and it can be used without ever having to take the soft cover off. I haven't really used it past 300 yards, but works okay at the range for that. Make sure you get a good tripod for it, you'll be glad you did.

My Viper HD came unscrewed at the tripod mount. I screwed it back together but can't get it back completely tight. Is there a video or procedure u can send me to show the proper way to put it back together? i think the tab must be in a specific position?

What tripod would you recommend for this spotting scope? Most of the sturdier built tripods on the website say they have been discontinued.

Can a spotting scope replace a telescope for viewing stars, planets, moon, etc.?
Asked by: Kyle
A spotting scope can definitely be used for star gazing! However, a purpose built telescope will likely be better for that application.

Is there a Polarized lens available to fit the Viper HD to reduce incoming glare? Couldn't see one in the accessories list. How do others cope with that? Andy
Asked by: Pastyboy
We do not have any polarized lenses for our spotting scopes. You may be able to check with a camera store to see if they have any filters that you could make work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The BEST spotting scope EVER !!! I bought this scope two months ago and I am here to tell you it is the best I have used. I was torn between this and the Razor. I found that the Viper had a bigger objective lens and allowed me further distance. I am a competitive long range shooter and everything I have is Vortex (Rangefinder, two scopes, one pair of binos and now this spotting scope). I am telling you, bang for your buck, quality of glass and size, you simply will not find a better spotting scope on the market.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Big and Beautiful This has been a great scope. Its big, Beautiful and a great value. I used it for one season packing it in my pack. I decided that I don't like the weight or size when hunting out of a backpack. But when I'm car hunting I love it! I think that the most important thing is to have a sturdy tripod to support it. Because of its size wind tended to push it around a little more than my smaller scopes. It has great clarity in all light conditions, my kids love to use it to look at the moon.
