Viper® HS 4-16x50 LR™ Riflescope

Want to extend your effective shooting range at distances where bullet drop and wind drift become critical? Take a look at the Viper HS LR riflescope. The LR stands for long range — and we mean it. This riflescope features an exposed target-style elevation turret built for dialing elevation at extended ranges. The capped windage turret maintains the scope’s sleek lines and prevent it from hanging up on clothing, rifle cases or pack scabbards.

Viper HS LR riflescopes feature an advanced optical system highlighted with a 4x zoom range for magnification versatility. A forgiving eye box with increased eye relief gets shooters on target quickly and easily. Built on an ultra-strong 30mm one-piece machined aluminum tube for increased windage and elevation travel and optimal adjustment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bought a second one for my personal rifle. Bought it for my daughters 270 WSM, after install and sight in at 100 yrds we ordered the custom turret from Kenton industries and after a couple of weeks we received the turret. After a quick double check of the zero we installed the turret. We started at 400 yrds and started to check the accuracy of the different yardages I was more than suprised that we were spot on at 870 yrds. This scope has not only impressed me but my daughter confidence at ranges we normally wouldn't shoot has increased. I have just purchased the same scope for my own gun. Thanks for making great product with a warenty that is second to none.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good scope for the money The glass is good. Very clear and pulle in light well. Turrets have good positive clicks and parallax nob is smooth. Overall I like this scope a lot. A couple of things I don't care for; I don't like the tall turrets, they catch on everything, I don't like the dead hold bdc on my 22-250, I think it would be better suited for a different round. There is one thing that I really don't care for at all, that is the size of the ocullar apparatus. It's very difficult to get the scope down low on the rifle. If this is something that could be addressed in the future I would have these on all of my rifles. I feel for the price and features you couldn't do better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome glass Great price Having been a Nikon lover for years a good friend of mine slowy wore me down to try Vortex glass and I haven't looked back since. I purchased the Viper HS-LR in 4-16x50 with BDC reticle mounted it on 7mm rem mag with 20 moa base and warne rings. Living in Idaho with alot of wide open space and long range hunting this scope has performed flawlessly with the BDC or dialing adjustments with turrets and they track very well and precise. I have order another Viper scope this time an HST 6-24x50 SFP with MOA reticle and I'm sure I'll love this one just as much. Vortex customer for life.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No doubt this one will sit on my best rig forever... I absolutely love this scope. When I was ready to step it up a notch with my optics, I knew I was going with vortex for their incredible warranty. I wanted to good hunting scope that would handle Texas Whitetail at 100yds and Western Elk at 300yds. I was not disappointed with this scope. The Clarity and Durability are top notch. I am not one to be able to drop several thousand on a extremly high in scope, but you get what you pay for. This was a great option for a budget minded hunter in look for a top notch optic that wasn't going to take a few years to pay off. This will last a lifetime, and I am extremely pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vortex is hands down the best bang for your buck! I've never been one to spend more money on a scope than I did the gun but I have heard a lot of good things about vortex so I decided to purchase a Viper HS-LR 4-16x50 and it was the best decision I've ever make. It is the clearest scope I've ever owned. From dawn to dusk this scope gives me the clarity I need to make a perfect shot. Turret clicks are very responsive and tactile. This scope holds its zero and returns to zero exceptionally well. I've never been so amazed with a riflescope. This scope is amazing quality. I will never buy another brand of optics again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Workhorse Riflescope This rifle scope is like it says in the title, a work horse. It lives on my everything rifle. It get banged around in the truck, taken all over the field, and used for everything from predators, deer, pigs. It is very clear even at high magnification. The tracking is true and can handle targets at extended ranges. The reticle is fine enough for extended range but visible enough for hunting predators at night. It is a perfect fit for my "everyting" rifle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love it I have always bought nice rifles and didn't spend much on optics. Go figure that i never was happy with how they shoot. Well I finally dug deep, opted to ask forgiveness from the wife, and stuck this baby on my Savage 10pc in 308. I never could get groups under 1.25 before. Now they are in the same hole and all i changed was the scope. I am beyond pleased! good features, great glass, and a price that won't have you sleeping on the couch too long.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Scope I bought this scope a little over a year ago and have nothing but good things to say about it. I have it on a Remington 700 VSSF 308 and have been consitently hitting steel out to 800 yards with it. I know this may not be a huge feat for the long range gurus out there, but for an average guy with an off the shelf gun shooting sub moa at 800 yards is pretty great. The consistency and reliability of the turrets is amazing! I have been going through my rifles and removing other brands and putting nothing but Vortex on, go buy one you will not be disappointed.

Hi. My rig is Savage 10/110 FCP HS Precision 300 Win Mag. I purchased a like-new Vortex Viper HS LR 4-16x50 from a buddy w/ Vortex rings that are stamped H7056 on underside. Which rings are they? Which rail should I use to mount rings/scope on? Thank you!

Asked by: 3UPTOP
Give us a call at 800-426-0048 ext 5 to determine what rings you have. I recommend using a 1 piece picatinny rail from www.egwguns.com.

Besides the capped windage and FFP. What is the main difference between the HST and the HSLR? Glass quality? I am debating between the two models for a 300 RUM, western states hunting, 100 - 1000 yards.

Asked by: Kirk61
The Viper HST and HSLR have the same optics, they differ in their features. The HST has exposed elevation and windage turrets, while the HSLR has an exposed elevation but capped windage turret. The 6-24x50 Viper HSLR is a first focal plane scope while the 4-16x50 model and the HST's are all second focal plane. The decision between the two is personal preference, but if you want to discuss them give us a call at 800-426-0048 ext 5.

I'm mounting a Viper HS-LR on a Remington 5R milspec. I have an EGW 20 moa base rail what height of rings do I need?

Asked by: jonnyfingers
Our Precision Matched Rings in 0.97" height will work if your rifle is a long action, if you have a short action the 0.87" height will fit.

I have a HS-LR in 4-16 x 50. I'm having a problem with the eye relief staying constant through the magnification range. at higher magnification i need to crane my neck forward as much as 2" to maintain a good sight picture. any suggestions?

Asked by: jonnyfingers
I recommend mounting your scope with it at max magnification because that is where the eye relief is the least forgiving. If you get the eye relief set at max magnification it will be good at all other magnifications.

I have a Viper HS LR 4-16X50mm, I would like to purchase one of the Vortex Sure Fit Scope Covers. If I want to keep the sunshade on my scope do I need to purchase the XL size, or will the Large size scope cover still fit?

Asked by: Upchurch_k
The XL size will work the best if you are going to keep the sunshade on your scope.

Considering the Vortex Viper HS LR 4-16x50 for my Ruger 6.5 Creedmoor. 1st - Do you agree with my selection of scopes? Will be hunting everything from, coyotes, javelina, deer & possibly even elk. 2nd - What is the difference in the Dead Hold BDC & FFP?

Asked by: greerfire
The 4-16x50 Viper HSLR is a great option for a hunting scope. The FFP stands for first focal plane, here is a video that explains the difference in first and second focal plane: http://www.vortexoptics.com/video/first_vs_second_focal_plane.

Does Vortex have a calibrated scope to 308 Win applications or custom turrets? If not, what would you recommend for shooting up to 500 yds?

Asked by: GTNMUDY
We do not make caliber specific reticles because there are too many variables to account for. You can get custom turrets for our scopes from www.kentonindustries.com, or you can use our ballistic calculator to find what your drops would work out to for our scopes: http://www.vortexoptics.com/content/lrbc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HS-LR a working man's lr scope! I put the hslr on my newly built 7mm rem mag. I hadn't really shot lr before, but wanted to learn. After proper barrel break in it was time for load development. The scope adjusted great and after a little tweaking I settled on my load. I read the instructions and set the zero stop, very easy. The scope tracked perfectly. Iv shot from 100 to 1200 yards with this rig. The rifle is now 3 yeas old and we're coming up on its 3rd season. Between myself, friends, and family the rifle and scope has accounted for 22 big game kills. Iv been very impressed with its ability to hold a zero hunt after hunt. Clarity is good for the price, but lacks a little on the higher power. For the purpose, I can't think of a better scope in this price range.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic glass for a fantastic price! I recently decided to switch out my old 3-9x40 scope for a high-end scope that wouldn't break the bank and would allow consistent shooting beyond 500 yards. I did extensive research and eventually decided on the Viper HS LR. I could not be happier with my choice. The glass is so clear and I love the reticle. It makes holdover shots intuitive and natural. The instruction manual was very helpful and I always appreciate scope caps and a sleeve. Combine this with Vortex's industry-best warranty and this choice was a no brainer.
