Rated 4 out of 5 by from ***ALMOST*** The Perfect Backpacking Tripod Picked this up after carrying a Slik aluminum tripod on my back all fall. As great as the slik was, it just was too freaking heavy for real backcountry stuff. So I set out looking for an ultralight tripod that was also ultra compact while still being sturdy enough to support my spotting scope and binos as needed. I didn't need a standing height tripod, the Slik could continue to fulfill that role for road glassing and scouting. With that in mind, I settled on this tripod, and it's literally almost perfect! It folds down super compact, it's very lightweight, and plenty sturdy enough to use while seated. The ONLY "complaint" I have is the two-way pan head. It works great for range use and general glassing, but for precise glassing, it was difficult to use effectively. So I ended up swapping out the pan head for a Slik fluid head which added about 4 ounces to the total weight of the tripod and about 2 inches to the length, but the usability and my overall glassing experience improved significantly. With the fluid head, I would dare say this is the perfect backpacking tripod! The two way pan head now resides atop the Slik tripod for range and road use, and it works great in that role. If this came in a "legs only" purchase option for less money like many other tripods on the market, I would give it a 5/5 rating, without question!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Light-weight Tripod I haven't had a chance to use this in the field yet, but I did get it out a couple times and mess with it. Functions very well, easy to figure out and manipulate the legs, extend/retract, mounting base, etc. The height is perfect for me standing and using a straight spotter. I'm 5'9". I am actually going to try to shoot off of it as well. I think it should hold up just fine, but we'll see. Overall, a great tripod. I'll update this review if I have issues in the field or after I shoot from it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I dig it It's rock solid and simple to use. I like the twist legs over other styles with the cam latches. If I could change one thing, I'd like a separate tension screw for the pan and tilt. As it is the pan/tilt are controlled by the handle, but there's a sweet spot that lets the head pan without tilting that makes it work just fine.
