Simply put, the Impact rangefinder’s combination of excellent and reliable performance at a super economical price means you no longer have an excuse to head afield without a laser rangefinder. This lightweight, no-frills rangefinder is easy-to-use and features angle compensation for treestand hunters and casual range goers wanting precise horizontal distance to the target. The Impact joins all other Vortex rangefinders in the unique fact they are fully covered for life by the legendary VIP Warranty—including electronics.
Runs on a single, long-lasting, easy-to-find, CR2 battery.
The Impact 850 uses HCD (Horizontal Component Distance) angle-compensated ranging technology to give bow and rifle shooters the critical distance data needed to make accurate shots.

Love Vortex!Haven’t had a chance to use this for hunting yet, but I did compare it to my old rangefinder and it performed very well. I like that this rangefinder is smaller and faster than my old rangefinder, but I bought it because of the VIP warranty.
I also own Vortex binoculars. Long story short - they got damaged while hunting and the Vortex VIP warranty was everything they said it was and more. I sent it in, got a return date - I emailed back and asked if I could get it sooner as I was going hunting soon - they said no problem, they would move it to the front of the line - got ‘em back a few days later.
Great products, great warranty, and great customer service!

Does exactly what it says.Great rangefinder for 90% of hunters. The 400 yd rating on "deer sized" objects is spot on and plenty for the vast majority of shooters. Yes, you may need more range for precise shots above this range in extreme western situations for an excellent marksman. If you hunt anywhere from the Mississippi River valley east, you likely will never need more range than this.
The one thing that may hang you up if you have less than great eyesight is that the feedback is all displayed in black rather than illuminayed red. This can make it somewhat difficult to see and I can see this being a problem for someone who struggles with vision in low light scenarios. If that was added as a feature I'd be all over a 5 star rating here. That said, this is a "budget" range finder that brings outstanding quality to a very competitive MSRP and a real world prices often WELL south of $200. That price for an angle compensating rangefinder that is demonstrably accurate is fantastic.
If you can handle the black display and don't need the longer ranges, this may well be the place to look.

In the clutch!I was on a budget, and needed a range finder that was compact and affordable. The Impact 850 came through in the clutch! As a new bow hunter, I needed ease of use, and accuracy, and it delivered both in a breeze. I use this regularly when I have my bow with me to ensure I have the correct distance for my shots. I've tested it with targets at different distances from 10 yards to 60 yards and on different angles to ensure that I am comfortable using it when bow hunting. Needless to say this rangefinder has the capacity that I need to use it confidently whenever I'm outdoors whether scouting, setting up shooting lanes and marking target distance, or if I'm ranging an animal. In conjunction with my Crossfire 10x42 binos, in my vortex bino glasspack, these items pair up nicely.
