Quick-release plate for the Vortex Summit SS Tripod ensures fast attaching and detaching of optics in the field.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Mark G from simple fix I use the SS-P with my razor binoculars and spotting scope. Although I agree the quick release plate needs an alignment pin I found a simple and cheap work around. I took a piece of craft foam (like my wife and kids use for crafts and cards) cut it to shape with a razor and installed it between the release plate and the optic, like a gasket. Then finger tightened the plate. The added friction provided by the foam has kept the plate from loosening or moving. Vortex if you use my work around send me some gear lol.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Hutch from Tripod is awesome, quick release plate sucks. I've had product for over a year. The tripod is great but the quick release plate is no good. It doesn't stay tight on spotting scope base . Eventually falls off if you don't watch it and tighten often. I have tried Loctite and that doesn't seem to help. Optics are awesome I just don't like the release plate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TM762 from Works Great! Quit Whining! In order to keep the tripod lightweight, there is a small QR plate. Put some thread locker on the threads, tighten with the appropriate sized screwdriver and enjoy! I don't care which type of tripod/QR plate you get whether it's from vortex, vanguard, manfrotto, etc. even if they have a "pin" to prevent rotation, they all come loose if you "finger tighten" them... The featherlike weight and versatility of this tripod FAR outweigh the negligible inconvenience of having to get some thread locker and a screwdriver out for a few minutes... Well done Vortex. Whenever I'm using this tripod on the range or on the hunt, people love this tripod set up!! I use this in all weather conditions, with binoculars and a spotting scope that weighs 4.1 pounds with zero issues!! I love it!
